This article studies the capacity of density currents, formed by difference of temperature, to mobilize the sediment from the bottom of a reservoir. The study is framed in a pollution episode that happened in the Flix reservoir in 2001, in which thousands of fishes died and the water supply of cities like Tarragona was affected. Other hypotheses about the explanation of the episode are discussed and a new one based on density currents is developed.
