COMPARACIÓN EXPERIMENTAL DE LA EVOLUCIÓN TEMPORAL DE LA EROSIÓN LOCAL

A study of local scour at bridge piers of circular base is presented. The aim of the work is focuses to verify the morphodynamic model that was proposed in (Bateman et al. 2005) for squared bridge piers. The same conditions of geometry, hydrodynamic, and definitively the experimental definition were placed in the new experiments respect to those developed for square piers. The main dimension of the cross sections of the piers was maintained to be easily compared. Here, a new
mathematical model is not presented but the basic differences between the two geometries are commented. The main phenomena was the vortex action in the river bed, the flow exerts the main work on the particles. The visualization of the riverbed geometry are of fundamental interest, here a digital technique was developed to measure the surface around the pier, the data will be used to understand the flow action and also to compare with future mathematical models. The squared cross
section bridge piers induces the formation of vortices, nevertheless the circular cross section piers not. The formulation of local scour will be different from square and circular ones.
